Magnetic ordering and structure phenomena in the rare-earth CeRu2Al10 compound.

DOI

This proposal is for crystal-structure (on HRPD) and magnetic ordering (on WISH) studies on the local-moment compound CeRu2Al10. It follows from our recent neutron studies at ILL (October 2009), where magnetic ordering as well as crystal-structure instabilities were identified. In our physical properties studies as well as those reported by a Japanese group, simultaneous semiconductor-to-metal, paramagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic, and crystal-structural transformations have been identified in CeRu2Al10 at T*=27 K. From our ILL measurements the magnetic reflections are now known to be of very weak intensity, probably in consequence of a small ordered moment due to Kondo moment renormalization. The ISIS experiments are needed to study these phenomena with superior resolution. The present proposal accompanies a muSR proposal at ISIS on the title compound to determine the ordering parameter.
