The compound LixCoO2 has attracted lots of attention in the recent years because of its application as cathodes in Li-ion batteries. The diffusion pathway of Li- ions within a battery material is inherently important to its capacity to charge and discharge. Knowledge of the Li ions diffusion pathways is expected to provide a vital know-how for the future battery research. The main aim of the present proposal is to find out the diffusion pathways and diffusion rates along different crystallographic directions by carrying out QENS measurements using the OSIRIS spectrometer. The quasi-elastic neutron scattering will give the information about the diffusion of Lithium, which will reveal the information about the diffusion constant. To complete the proposed measurements at four temperatures over 300-900 K, we need 6 days of neutron beam time at the OSIRIS spectrometer.
