Local order in the bismuth based solid solution systems BiMeO3 - ATiO3 (Me = Cr, Fe: A = Sr, Ba)

DOI

Research within the field of functional oxides has always been very active. In recent years systems showing a coupling between ferroelectricity and magnetism have become one of the most active areas. It is in a sense a contradiction to stabilize both phenomena in a single compound. However, certain perovskite structured lone pair, and transition metal ion containing systems show the desired coupling (e.g. BiFeO3, BiMnO3, etc). In order to optimize the interaction, solid solution systems like BiFeO3 - BaTiO3 or BiCrO3 - BaTiO3 are of interest to investigate. The key objective in this study is to reveal local disorder in those and closely related systems and to correlate local order to magnetic and ferroelectric properties.
