In this research project, we aimed to improve informed decision making about participating in colorectal cancer screening by developing an online decision aid with benefit-harm assessment. For this, we first developed a benefit-harm analysis model to estimate the individual net benefit of participating in colorectal cancer screening. In this model, the benefit and harm risks were estimated using microsimulation and then weighed for their perceived importance based on a survey among men and women from the target population of colorectal cancer screening. The data deposited here are the data from that preference survey, the R scripts used to analyze the preferences and the questionnaire used in the survey. The survey was conducted among members of the Dutch Healthcare Consumer Panel of the Nivel.
