The project is based on a previous study carried out within the framework of NRP-25 (G.P. Torricelli and R. Ratti: Reti urbane e Frontiera, Report No. 56, 258 pp. Bern, 1994). Starting in August 1993, the study aims at a twofold objective: 1) the implementation of an information system that can ensure the regular production of statistics and graphical models on issues affecting cross-border relations between the canton of Ticino and the Lombardy and Piedmont regions (available to the administration and individuals); 2) the creation of a socio-economic Atlas of the Insubrian region (Ticino and Italian-speaking Graubünden, provinces of Como, Varese, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Sondrio), in a wider context, between Switzerland, Lombardy and Piedmont.

Le projet est né d'une recherche précédente, réalisée dans le cadre du PNR-25 (G.P. Torricelli et R. Ratti: Reti urbane e Frontiera, rapport n. 56, 258 p. Berne, 1994). Commencée à partir du mois d'août 1993, la recherche vise un double objectif: 1) la mise en service d'un système d'information pouvant assurer la production régulière de statistiques et de modèles graphiques sur des problématiques touchant aux relations transfrontalières entre le canton du Tessin et les régions Lombardie et Piémont (à la disposition de l'administration et des particuliers); 2) la réalisation d'un Atlas socio-économique de la région insubrienne (Tessin et Grisons italiens, provinces de Côme, Varèse, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola et Sondrio), dans un contexte élargi, entre la Suisse, la Lombardie et le Piémont.
