Coupling ferromagnatism and ferroelectriocity in a single phase material at or near room temperature has significant potential for the development of hybrid memory combining the best features of conventional magnetic RAM and ferroelectric FRAM. However such materials have proved elusive. Recently we reported materials were these two properties could be coupled via a third distortion in the structure of iron based Ruddleden Popper phases. However the details of this coupling are still unclear. Here we aim to exploit the high resolution of the entire diffraction pattern of WISH to investigate the detail of this mechanism.
