The proposed research project is targeted to the investigation of the characteristics of eumelanin, a heterogeneous material insoluble in water and in any organic solvent, as well as on the kinetic evolution of its formation, starting from the precursor 5,6-dihydroxyindole.Preliminary Light Scattering Measurements have shown to observe a continuous growth of the eumelanin up to ~1200 nm of hydrodynamic radius. SANS investigations can help to gain information on the polymerization process, revealing the time evolution in size and shape of aggregates present in solution, and to work out a kinetic model of the eumelanin growth
