Organometallic Radicals

DOI

A 19-electron organometallic radical was produced by the reaction of muonium with ferrocene and characterized by avoided level crossing muon spin resonance (ALC-muSR) and longitudinal field muon spin resonance (LF-muSR). Measurements of the muon hyperfine coupling constant (hfcc) and the electron and muon spin relaxation rates provide information about the structure and dynamics of this novel radical. However questions remain about the temperature dependence of the muon hfcc and spin relaxation rates. We propose to perform ALC-muSR and LF-muSR measurements on deuterated and methyl substituted ferrocenes in order to confirm whether the unusual temperature dependence is due to torsional motion of the cyclopentadiene rings.
