Spin dynamics in the extended Kagome system YBaCo4O(7+x)

DOI

A recently discovered new class of geometrically frustrated magnets is the family of cobalt oxides RBaCo4O7 (R=rare earth or Y). The structure is built up CoO4 tetrahedra which form alternating Kagome and triangular cobalt layers, in which alternate triangles of Co ions in the Kagome planes are capped with Co ions in the triangular layers. The Curie-Weiss temperature is 500K, but no long-range magnetic order is observed down to at least 2K for x=0.1. We propose to study the spin dynamics in this new geometrically frustrated system for signatures of topologically protected structures in the Kagome planes, and any effect of the quasi-1D ordering arising from the coupling of the Kagome planes.
