The cohort consists of all individuals over 18 years with lymphoma identified from the regional cancer registry in southern Sweden during the years 1990 to 1998. In the first step the primary physician was contacted and after consent questionnaires were mailed to the patients. For each case, two controls matched for sex, age and place of residence and the same questions were also sent to them. The questionnaire addressed issues such as education, smoking, occupation and exposure to various substances. Participants were asked if they had had one of 25 specified occupations where you work with substances that may be hazardous, such as in the textile industry, the oil industry or in the rubber industry. The questionnaire also contained specific questions about the subjects had been exposed to any of 16 different subjects, eg nickel, asbestos, solvents, gasoline, other petroleum products, pesticides, radiation or radioactivity, and also the time of exposure. Further questions concerning what animals they had been exposed to both at home and outside the home. Purpose: The aim is to create a case control cohort to study risk factors of malignant lymphoma. The dataset includes the cases in the study, those affected by lymphoma.
Kohorten består av alla individer över 18 år med lymfom som identifierats från det regionala cancerregistret i södra Sverige under åren 1990 till 1998. I ett första steg kontaktades den behandlande läkaren och efter godkännande från dem så skickades ett frågeformulär ut till patienterna. Till varje fall har två kontroller matchats för kön, ålder och hemort och samma frågor sändes även till dem. Frågeformuläret berörde frågor som utbildning, rökning samt yrken och exponering för olika substanser. Deltagarna fick svara på om de hade haft ett av 25 specificerade yrken där man jobbar med substanser som kan vara farliga, t.ex. i textilindustrin, oljeindustrin eller inom gummiindustrin. Enkäten innehöll också specifika frågor om individerna hade varit utsatta för något av 16 olika ämnen, t.ex. nickel, asbest, lösningsmedel, bensin, andra oljeprodukter, insektsmedel, strålning eller radioaktivitet, samt tiden för exponeringen. Ytterligare frågor rörde vilka djur de hade utsatts för både i och utanför hemmet. Syfte: Syftet är att skapa en fall-kontrollstudie för att kunna studera riskfaktorer för lymfom. Datasetet innefattar studiens fall, dvs. de som drabbats av lymfom.
