Microbial community development in Base Mine Lake, the first end-pit-lake in the Alberta oil sands region

The goal of this study is to compare the microbial community in the early years of an oil sands end pit lake (named Base Mine Lake or BML) to that of a freshwater reservoir (Beaver Creek Reservoir or BCR) and a tailings pond (Mildred Lake Settling Basin or MLSB).
