The effect of aluminium on the deformation mechanisms in titanium alloys

DOI

The aim of this experiment is to measure the intergranular strain evolution in two types of single phase titanium alloys. While commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) is known to show a significant level of twinning during deformation, it is generally believed that Ti-6Al only deforms by slip. The planned experiment aims at comparing the intergranular strain development during tensile and compression loading of CP-Ti and Ti-6Al in order to identify possible differences in deformation mechanisms between the two alloys. Observations of the evolution of the (0002) integrated intensity during deformation will also enable the identification of twinning
