Frustrated compounds belonging to the pyrochlore family have attracted significant interest as they can host a huge variety of exotic phases. In order to explore the rich phase diagram of these 3D frustrated systems, one need to slightly vary the delicate balance between exchange, dipolar and spin-orbit interactions, for which a better understanding could lead to the stabilization of new quantum phases. Here, we propose to focus on the recently synthesized Sm2Zr2O7, whose ground state is still unknown. Sm2Zr2O7 has the necessary ingredients to host an exotic quantum spin liquid state in three dimensions.
