Adsorption of an Anionic Surfactant on Anionic Surfaces in the Presence of Potassium and ammonium Ions

DOI

In this proposal, we request beamtime to study the very unexpected adsorption behaviour of the surfactant bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate potassium and ammonium salt (K(AOT) and TAB(AOT) respectively) on both silica and mica surfaces. This builds on previous ISIS work where the nature of the cation was found to have a big effect on the surprising adsorption of organic anions to an anionic surface. We aim to understand why a negative molecule sticks on a negative surface!
