This proposal aims to investigate and compare the dynamics of CO2 when confined in a nanoporous Vycor (SiO2) matrix. The field of fluids in confined geometries is currently of great interest, as it has implications in physical, chemical and biological systems. It is well known that confining liquids in a porous geometry has a large affect on the properties of the system, such as the freezing temperature and the relaxation dynamics of the system. This proposal aims to investigate the origins of anomalous dynamical phenomena that have been observed in CO2 confined in Vycor and compare these with similar observations that have been made for confined H2O
