Inelastic Neutron Scattering study on PrRhSn3

DOI

Recently we have investigated the cubic compound PrRhSn3 using the dc and ac susceptibilities and the heat capacity. We found an evidence for the cluster-glass behavior with a freezing temperature, Tf = 4.3 K. The frequency dependence of Tf is well described by the Vogel-Fulcher law with activation energy Ea = 21.3 K, and within the framework of critical slowing down, we estimated characteristic time constant 2.2 x 10^-10 s and critical exponent 10.86. All these results provide a strong evidence for the formation of a cluster-glass state in PrRhSn3. The specific heat reveals a crystal field (CEF) singlet ground state and a broad Schottky anomaly near 8 K. We believe that the origin of spin-glass behaviour lies in the dynamic fluctuations of the CEF levels as has been proposed for PrAu2Si2. We therefore propose to carry out INS study on PrRhSn3 using MARI.
