In our previous experiment we determined a value for the interfacial width of bare hexadecane-water interface. The NR-determined width was 6.0 ± 1.0 Å, which compares well with XR-determined value of 6.0 ± 0.2 Å. We would like to extend this work to employ extensive isotopic substitution to enable the partial water and oil distributions for the bare interface to be obtained experimentally for the first time. These partial structures of these type of systems will also be important in interpreting the interface in the presence of surfactants and more importantly would allows us to develop the necessary experimental protocols to apply the kinematic approximation to the buried oil-water interface.
