Temperature dependence of spin dynamics near quantum criticality in an Ising chain in transverse field

DOI

This proposal is part of our research programme to explore the interplay of thermal and quantum fluctuations near zero-temperature quantum phase transitions. Here we apply for a continuation experiment to measure the temperature dependence of the spin dynamics in the theoretically most studied paradigm for a quantum phase transition: the Ising chain in transverse field. We recently realized this paradigm experimentally for the first time in the quasi-1D Ising ferromagnet CoNb2O6 and in LET experiments we observed significant lineshape broadening effects with increasing temperature, however we could only collected a very limited data set. Here we plan to collect a complete data set in the vicinity of the critical field to test key predictions for universal quantum critical scaling in the Ising universality class.
